TYREE BOYD-PATES is an impactful author, historian, curator, writer, DJ, social entrepreneur, and international speaker. He explores Black culture through a contemporary lens and actively mobilizes communities of color using journalism, social media, education, and historical advocacy.
His work has been prominently featured in a variety of major media outlets, including The New York Times, Vogue, The Hollywood Reporter, Fast Company, Fortune Magazine, Time Magazine, and The Los Angeles Times. Tyree's innovative history exhibitions continue to inspire thousands of visitors to museums and encourage fresh engagement with history. He is a sought-after lecturer at universities, where he discusses American history, curation, and museum practices. As a TEDx speaker, he passionately advocates for inner-city youth across the nation.
Tyree earned his Master’s degree in Pan-African Studies from Temple University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, with a minor in African American Studies, from California State University, Bakersfield.
As the principal of NOMMO Cultural Strategies, he consults on African American art, history, and culture. In addition, he founded Freedom School Online, a platform offering virtual courses on Black history, antiracism, and creative entrepreneurship. This platform aims to equip the next generation with essential knowledge and skills for the future.
